WEIRD DEMOCRACY – the most bizarre candidates and electoral contests in the history of USA

Numer:
271

We will look at the history of American elections in search of bizarre developments and candidates (expect films and interviews) in search of an answer to the following question: is democracy a system for the wise or is it not? How smart must the candidates and voters be for democracy to still be democracy? In order to answer these questions in a practical way we are going to design a fool proof (pun intended) set of rules which will "protect" democracy from stupidity .In order to make things interesting we will take into account the actual electoral rules and civil rights to see if they are not the obstacles to making democracy "smarter".
